Legacy Cribs
Following a lovely new addition to the family we were recently in the market for a new crib. We were looking for something sturdy and durable that would last and not fall apart after a year or two. Of course it also had to be a stylish crib that added to the feel of the nursery my husband had just spent so much time decorating – although I suspect that my husband would happily have settled for something practical that didn’t look good.
One of my friends recommended that we check out the legacy cribs range she had heard about. This was a new name to me but I decided to check it out anyway as I only wanted the best for our new arrival.
It turns out that legacy cribs are part of a range of cribs from Child Craft, a company based in Indiana. Since 1996 they have been making a range of legacy furniture, including cribs.
I eventually managed to track down some pictures and the cribs did look good – there are a few different styles and finishes, including cribs of different sizes made out of wood or iron, some with a drawer, some without. There was even a range of convertible cribs and beds too.
I must admit I was more than a little concerned to see that there had a been a product recall for legacy cribs back in 2004 – it seems that in some models the wooden slats had been coming loose and there was a chance that the infant in the crib could become trapped or maybe even strangle themselves, God forbid. Upon further examination it turns out that thankfully there had been no casualties reported and the recall was just a precaution.
After researching legacy cribs and giving their products some thought I eventually decided not to buy one. There were two main reasons for this – firstly I just liked the look of a couple of the other options I had seen, and secondly, I couldn’t buy them online – I had to go to a retailer and there wasn’t one near me.
Nowadays I find that I buy most of my stuff online. I like being able to spend my time looking at a few options and taking the time I need to make a decision I’ll be happy with. In the early days of the internet I was worried about security and not being able to get problems solved but today I don’t think these are issues any more, especially if you shop with trusted companies.
I found a great website called http://www.babycribfaq.com, which was packed full of choices. As well as baby cribs I found many different options for baby bedding, crib mattresses, bassinets, baskets etc. – basically everything I was looking for all in one place. I did some more digging around and discovered that they act as a one-stop shop for everything to do with baby cribs – they search all the big, respectable online merchants and display their results on the site so you don’t have to go searching through lots of different sites to get that information. Fantastic!
Oh, and in case you’re wondering – I eventually went for a Graco Sarah convertible Crib – and I love it!
